The department

The Corporate & Commercial Team at Trethowans is highly regarded and provides advice across a wide range of business sectors. Our clients include individuals and SMEs through to major financial institutions and household names such as Ladbrokes, Jewson (part of the Saint-Gobain Group) and Lush Cosmetics.

We advise on the full remit of legal issues which affect businesses during their lifecycle including in respect of the following practice areas:

- company, limited liability partnership and partnership formations and company secretarial services

- commercial contracts (e.g. supply of goods/services agreements and IT agreements)

- corporate governance & regulation (e.g. advice regarding the Companies Act)

- banking & finance

- corporate transactions (e.g. share/business sales/purchases and investments)

The role

We are looking for a Paralegal to join our successful Banking and Finance Team based in our Southampton office.

Our team offers extensive expertise in banking and finance, acting for major financial institutions, including a number of household names. This role offers the opportunity for immediate exposure to high quality work from day one and provides excellent opportunities for career progression. Candidates should be commercially focused and pragmatic in their approach. The ability to work as part of a team and deliver excellent client service is also essential.

The ideal candidate will be interested in undertaking the Solicitor Apprenticeship (18-month course) to qualify into the Banking & Finance Team. Enrolment onto the Solicitor Apprenticeship course is anticipated to commence in early 2025, upon successful completion of probationary period.  

As a Solicitor Apprentice you will learn the theory necessary to pursue a career in the law, building your commercial awareness and practical involvement whilst working within a law firm. You will have access to advice and mentorship from skilled Partners, Solicitors and other areas from within the firm.  

You will be expected to spend approximately 20% of your working week studying through our chosen provider, while the other 80% of your week will be spent working within our Banking & Finance Team, receiving real-life experience of legal matters.

To be eligible to undertake the short form Solicitor Apprenticeship candidates will require:

  • A law degree (LLB), or have completed their GDL or CILEx level 6
  • Have Maths and English GCSEs with grade C/4 or above, or Functional Skills with Pass
